Passeport de service
A service passport — also called an official passport — is issued to civil servants, military staff and technical government employees traveling abroad on official missions that do not warrant diplomatic status. Covers are commonly grey, green or brown.
Who receives it?
Government delegations, administrative and technical staff of embassies, military personnel on cooperation programs, and employees of state institutions on mission.
Privileges
It eases official travel and often benefits from visa waivers agreed between governments, but it does not grant diplomatic immunity. It is valid only for the duration and purpose of the mission.
Important
Personal tourism with a service passport is generally prohibited; the holder keeps an ordinary passport for private trips.
